- Masterblaster Popper tied on a Gamakatsu #2/0 (7wt and up)
- Phlipper Gamakatsu tied on a 4/0 (9wt and up)
Philip Meyer is, in his own words, 'fly-tying bedonnerd.’ Based in the Southern Cape, the professional tyer has been behind the vise since the tender age of 10. Throughout his 35-odd year career he’s had patterns widely acclaimed and been featured in various local and international magazines, books and websites. He also donned the competitive cap and placed second in the fly-tying division at the 2008 Commonwealth Champs in New Zealand and won back-to-back SA tier of the year awards in 2017 and 2018. Although his first love is saltwater patterns, he believes his most successful fly (to date) is the Para RAB which is used quite extensively internationally. His philosophy is to constantly tinker on existing pattern designs to see where he can improve and reinvent them, at the same time working on inventing uniquely new ones.
